07/04/09 - WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE AIR THIS WEEKEND -- SATURDAY? - WB4ZKA - Mike Pulley
An ACTIVATION DRILL is using the Shaw Butte 147.24(+) and linked Mt. Ord 146.92(-) repeaters in Maricopa County part of Saturday. The Arizona Repeater Association (ARA) has granted permission to use their fine machines.
The repeaters and autopatch are still available for routine, non-drill traffic.
Call Net Control and check in. You won't be required to do anything in today's drill. We're just collecting check-ins to demonstrate who would be willing to respond in the event of a disaster.
An East Valley city is conducting a tabletop exercise today. Normally, a tabletop doesn’t include actual on-air activation.
Skeptics doubt that enough hams would respond. They don't count on hams from around the Valley, Maricopa County, and the state to close ranks, pick up the slack, and support the agencies, hospitals, evacuation shelters, and other assignments in an affected community.
That’s where you come in. Check in with Net Control. Let’s let our responses speak loud and clear that Arizona hams are ready to step forward and be counted when the spam hits the fan.
If this kind of "radio with a purpose" appeals to you, if you have a license, a radio, and a willingness to use both for the benefit of others, sign up on this website to help on future events.
